Arc Welding and ECU's

Post by imperative »

Its been more than 25 years since I had anything to do with vehicle repairs. Back then we used to disconnect the ECU of any vehicle on which we were to do arc welding - mig specifically. Is this still the case?

Always pays to i think, and i do with mine , but having said that, the welding current is only going to travel between the earth clamp and the welding tip, so as long as you dont have the earth clamp on the engine, while you weld on the frame, it probably wont effect anything.
I think i have forgoten to do it once and had no ill effect, but why chance it?
